I read today – February 19, 2021 – in the NYT that at least 30 states charge a non-essential “luxury” tax on menstrual products.

I am speechless.1

1 This illustrates the problem of today, the most problemmatical problem of the day. Not coronavirus. Not ice in Texas. Not rising unemployment. Not the dearth of microchips. It’s that old white men still run the country. I thought they’d die off. Rush Limbaugh did. It turns out that old white men reproduce in a way that defies science or reason. In Jentleson’s Kill Switch, he cites that in 2009 old white men in the form of Senate Republicans represented only 35% of the American population, and I doubt that he was including children in that calculation. This trend is likely to continue into the indeterminate future as more and more people live in cities thus shrinking their representation in the Senate, thus leaving old white men calling the shots. I’m projecting therefore that menstrual products will be taxed as “luxury” items until the Senate becomes predominantly old women. Let’s see. AOC is now 31?
